Blackberry Farm Whitesmith, Nr Lewes, East Sussex BN8 6JD Tel: 01273 872912 Set in 18 acres of countryside the farm has over 150 animals. There is a daily schedule of activities including tractor rides, pony rides, animal handling sessions and occassional extra activities such as hand milking and demonstrations of sheep shearing and watching the Farrier. The outdoor play area is extensive with a large picnic area and there is an indoor playbarn for rainy days. The cafe serves freshly prepared meals and snacks and home baked cakes. There is a restaurant on site but the picnic area is always a firm favourite with visitors plus there’s an ice-cream kiosk and a produce shop with tempting organic and locally produced goodies. The fresh apple juice made on site is a true delight not to be missed. Mile Oak Farm Shop Mile Oak Farm, Portslade, East Sussex BN41 2RF Tel: 01273 424651 Various animals are kept at Mile Oak Farm to keep the children amused - Albert the donkey, Chloe and Clover the goats, and an assortment of hens, ducks, geese, quail and the ever-popular (and noisy) peacocks! "A really small but delightful collection of farm animals such as unusual hens, cockerels, goats, geese which are very entertaining for children to watch. There are also some horses and donkeys near by. The farm shop is small and unpretentious selling fruit and vegetables and great value eggs! Also more quirky items such as smoked garlic and Ginger cordial. There is a small cafe selling hot drinks, ice creams etc with outdoor seating too. The farm is on a dirt track near to many signposted walks on the downs with stunning views (plus pylons) with lots of interest along the way. Very muddy."
